Banana Peel introduces new colors and sandals collections

Banana Peel offers a wide range of styles, colors and even patterns. I have long heard about the brand since my daughter uses them. They’re very affordable yet stylish. The soles are firm enough to give support, but the rubber was soft to touch and so are the straps, no weird resistance and hard pieces to irritate my skin. Trying them on, I am very pleased with its look and feel. I no longer wonder why my daughter would buy and purchase them. I was lucky to join my daughter when she attended one of Banana Peel’s events where they had introduced their latest collections and new colors to some of their sandals line.

“When we started with Banana Peel, our intention is to take flip flops from being a footwear worn at home, to a footwear that can be worn anywhere, anytime while still being stylish and comfortable. We live in a tropical country; it is mostly sunny and humid which is why being in comfortable casual wear is common,” said Nikki Ng, Marketing and Creative Director of Banana Peel.

“Our collections come in funky, fun and vibrant colors and prints. They were designed by young Filipino talents and that makes Banana Peel 100% Pinoy,” added Ng.
The wide range of Banana Peel collections make it a stylish footwear for any ensemble and OOTDs. It works well with casual wear for dress down days. Its affordability allows you to own more than one pair giving you the chance to mix and match with your outfit.

Banana Peel has 26 branches and 3 franchise stores. It is also available in all major department stores nationwide. For more information about Banana Peel and its products, visit their website: www.bananapeel.net

NOVUHAIR's President and CEO Wins in the Individual Category of the 37th Agora Awards

Press release:

Nutramedica, Inc. President and CEO Sheila Mae Velilla bagged the Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship – Medium Scale at the recently concluded 37th Agora Awards.  Nutramedica is a homegrown 100% wholly-owned Filipino enterprise that manufactures and distributes Novuhair, an acclaimed line of products that addresses hair loss.

Held last October 26 at PICC, CCP Complex, the Agora Awards recognizes individuals and organizations for exceptional marketing skills and strategies.  It is touted to be the premier marketing awards body in the country and sets the high standards of excellence in the industry.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO BIG WINNER

Moving in an industry dominated by giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, Nutramedica’s tenacious rise from its humble beginnings as a microenterprise is one for the books.  Thanks largely to its creativity and innovation, it has become a major player with a well-established niche in the industry.

Founded in 2004 by Velilla, Nutramedica develops beauty and healthcare products out of natural and mostly indigenous ingredients.  It is one of the pioneers in the commercialization of virgin coconut oil (VCO) and gained wide success with its slogan “healthiest oil on earth,” which led to its acquisition by a big company.

It continued to create more VCO-based skin care products and hit the jackpot with its latest, and now banner, product – Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss.  This breakthrough solution is made of 19 herbal ingredients and comes in topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo, and herbal conditioner that effectively battles the effects of hair loss and helps enhance and restore one’s crowning glory.

Launched in 2009, Novuhair enjoys tremendous success until today.  It is widely accepted not only here in the Philippines, but also in other countries.  It is set to enter the international market, starting with the United States (US), in December of this year.  Such bold, yet timely, move of the company to export Novuhair to the US and eventually the Middle East also opens the opportunity for proudly-made local products to penetrate the global arena.

Novuhair’s popularity and market leadership may be attributed to the company’s initial market study coupled with the right timing, as well as smart use of resources by coming up with an effective tri-media campaign best described as low-budget yet high-impact marketing.

Leveraging on its organic growth from a microenterprise to medium scale with over 30 employees in a span of 12 years, Nutramedica continues to further develop, market and distribute high-quality goods that could bring honor to the country.

Herbalife Nutrition At Work Survey Reveals Filipino Millennials Desire Healthy, Active Workplace Environment

Herbalife Nutrition, a global nutrition company, has released the findings from its Asia Pacific Millennials At Work Survey1, which revealed that Filipino millennials are adapting a healthy, active lifestyle, however, most believe their current workplace environment prevents them from doing so.

Millennials, or people born in between 1980 and 2000, are opting for a workplace that will encourage them to stay active, if only this will be embedded in every company culture.  About 83 percent or eight (8) in 10 millennials have agreed that they would like their company workplace to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.

With the millennial generation expected to make up 50 percent of the global workforce by 2020, ensuring the wellbeing of millennials will be important to improving workplace productivity. “There are about 35 million millennials now in the Philippines, which is about one-third of the country’s entire population. Five years from now, millennials will be dominating the labor force. While most millennials want to lead healthy lives, they face real obstacles at work in doing so,” said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager. “At Herbalife Nutrition, we provide our employees with nutrition products at work, subsidize gym memberships, hold regular wellness programs related to nutrition and well-being, and encourage participation in outdoor activities and sports competitions.”

Herbalife Philippines General Manager Mr. Bong Valenzuela with Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board Member Julián Alvarez García, M.D., Ph.D.

Additionally, the survey findings revealed the following:
·         Seven (7) out of 10 millennials strive to live healthy, active lives
·         However, the majority of millennials find it challenging to maintain an active lifestyle at work – eight (8) out of 10 millennials spend 6 to 13 hours at their work desk each day, and 64% of millennials get less than 30 minutes of physical activity - including standing, stretching and walking at work on an average work day. Additionally, 64% of millennials cited the “lack of time” as the key obstacle to engaging in physical activity at work.

Julián Alvarez García, M.D., Ph.D., member of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board
giving a talk during the Manila leg of the 5th Asia Pacific Wellness Tour.

To provide tips on how millennials and their employers can integrate positive nutrition and life style habits at their workplaces, Herbalife Nutrition has organized a sixth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour, which builds upon the successes of the past five tours that welcomed over 100, 000  participants. Five experts from the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) are scheduled to tour 21 Asian cities from October 7 to 30, to hold a series of talks, workshops and medical symposia across the region.

“Through these efforts, we hope to equip organizations and employees with the right tools to collectively build a healthier work environment across Asia Pacific,” said Valenzuela.

Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board, will be visiting Manila for the Asia Pacific Wellness Tour this October. Julian Alvarez Garcia, M.D., Ph.D. will also be sharing expert advice on how millennials can adopt simple positive nutrition and lifestyle habits at work to
improve their overall well-being in the long run.

Some of the tips to help foster a healthier millennial workforce include:

·         Nutrition

o   Dedicate a healthy eating day each week and get colleagues involved in making healthy choices for lunch on this day.
o   Boost water intake to help the body digest food, rid the body of toxins, and help deliver nutrients to the cells. Drink at least eight (8) glasses or two (2) liters of water a day.
o   Have a protein shake combined with non-fat milk and healthy fruit for breakfast. With 20-30 grams of protein and low-fat contents, it can provide the body with all the nutrition it needs to power through the day.

·         Active Living

o   Create a playlist that incorporates upbeat music and play with hourly intervals.
o   Use Running Apps to keep energized and on-pace during regular runs.
o   Set a goal to join running competitions to motivate self to sustain an active lifestyle.

1Herbalife’s Millennials At Work Survey was conducted in 2016, with 5,500 respondents aged 18 and above, from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

NOVUHAIR’S INFORMATIVE TRUTH ON HAIR CHEMICALS

Press release:
We may not be aware that we are unknowingly putting harmful chemicals on our hair thus resulting to general conditions such as migraine, nausea and skin rashes. The symptoms may be quickly attributed to stress but if you look closer to that hair product you’re using, you’ll be surprise to find the culprit.
Popularity does not equate to safety, some popular brands sold in the market are loaded with mildly toxic chemicals that may be harmful in prolonged use.
Novuhair, Nature’s answer to hair loss, gives you the lowdown on these chemicals to help you with your choices.
Myth: Shampoo must produce lots of lather in order to properly clean your hair.
Truth: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a compound that helps shampoo and other cleaning product in producing foam and bubbles. Though it may effectively remove hair build-up, it can also strip off essential oils that is needed to keep your hair healthy.
Myth: Parabens has an anti-bacterial compound benefits that outweighs the harm.
Truth: Parabens are basically used to prolong the shelf life of hair and cosmetic products mostly for its antibacterial purpose. Symptoms that are related to over exposure to parabens are Atopic Dermatitis and Rosacea. Further studies also show that use of products with parabens accelerate skin damage and aging related to sun exposure.

EntrepTV: A must-see show for aspiring entrepreneurs

It’s pretty amazing when you see youngsters getting into business early on while at the peak of their youth. While most their age would probably indulge into gimmicks, business-minded  friends Jeddina “Jade” Bigay and Zyrus Ramos took a path less travelled—both ventured into media production via Lara at Juan (Larawan) Media Productions which also produced EntrepTV, a television show being aired every Saturday at PTV 4 which focuses on using one’s passion and turning it into a profitable endeavour. They feature random stories from small to large scale type of businesses that aims to inspire everyone to become business oriented and to start their own business.

EntrepTv host and executive producer Jeddina "Jade" Bigay

In this day and age, it is extremely difficult to invest money into a new business venture and turn them into highly profitable entities in returns for a percentage of both business and profit. What they feature on EntrepTV are great in-depth lessons for all aspiring entrepreneurs. The said show puts an emphasis on the three P’s of business—Passion, Process and Product—the triangular mantra for any startup business.

This paved the way for the beginnings of Alopecia Philippines. It aims to raise awareness about alopecia and correct common misconceptions and perceptions about it, provide encouragement to people afflicted with it, and create an online support community for them.
Inspired by Abby’s honesty and courage, men and women, kids and teens from different walks of life began sharing their own stories and struggles living with alopecia. LBC cleans name against online attacks by complaining netizen

Social media attacks on the courier and logistics company LBC have gone viral, mostly in OFW Facebook pages. OFWs and their families are some of the most frequent users of courier and door-to-door delivery services in the Philippines. One of such posts came from the account of a certain Ramon Tumpap, an OFW working in a restaurant in Spain. Concerned netizens have come forth with information regarding the true identity of Tumpap. However the motive of his post has been unclear. Tumpap aka Ramon Lobo, used his personal Facebook account to post pictures of volunteer workers sorting through relief boxes in a Taiwan warehouse. An official inquiry was made and it turned out that the photos posted where that of a Taiwanese warehouse, and not LBC's warehouse as alleged by Lobo/Tumpap.

Many netizens were angered and just ended up sharing and resharing Tumpap's post without even vetting the veracity of his claims resulting in the false claim going viral. Of course the photo was not taken from the warehouse of LBC but because pasalubong is an integral part of the Filipino family's love language, may OFWs were incensed despite other OFWs who actually use LBC's services and swear by their good and prompt service.

As of this writing, Tumpap has since deactivated his Facebook account on the pretense that he is ill and cannot be disturbed, thinking that evading investigators will make it all go away. There is no news or lead as to who may have hired Tumpap to post such online vitriol.

LBC is the courier of choice of many companies and OFWs families mostly because of LBC's reliable service and brand loyalty resulting from decades of operation in both domestic and international markets. LBC is a Filipino company.

Belinda Davids sings The Best of Whitney Houston Songs in The Greatest Love Of All: The Whitney Houston Show 2016 Live in Manila and Cebu

Singer Whitney Houston may have faded in our dreams, but her music will remain in our hearts forever. In fact, four years since her untimely demise, Houston's music still gets its fair share of airwaves from the local FM radios.  Thus it comes as no surprise when Showtime Management decided to bring back the amazing concert tour of the late great performer via The Greatest Love Of All: The Whitney Houston Show which has been making rounds for two years now and has wowed audiences from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Canada and USA with sold-out performances.

South African singing superstar, Belinda Davids top bills the said tribute to one of the world's iconic soulful singer. Davids had always admired and looked up to Whitney Houston. A successful singer in her own country, Davids feels happy and honored to be able to perform Houston's greatest hits on stage and by doing so keeps her music alive once more.
Belinda Davids

Now, Whitney Houston's Filipino fans had something to rejoice about. The good news is that DMC Philippines, in cooperation with Gotesco Group Of Companies, and Gruppo Group Of Companies has brought the music of Whitney Houston once more on the Philippine shore. DMC Philippines together with the above mentioned companies present The Greatest Love Of All: The Whitney Houston Show 2016 Live in Cebu (August 26) and Manila (August 27)The show includes 20 of Houston’s most popular tracks taken from the full span of her career, including ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, ‘Didn’t We Almost Have It All’, ‘I’m Every Woman’, ‘Exhale (Shoop Shoop)’, ‘Million Dollar Bill’ and more.

The show is directed by Showtime Management Creative Director John Van Grinsven Snr. and joined on tour by the production team responsible for the worldwide hit tribute show Michael Jackson HIStory.

I've seen Belinda Davids' own rendition of Whitney Houston's popular songs and I'd have to say, she's really got what it takes to be the 'successor of Houston.' If you're not looking at the singer, you could easily mistake Davids as the original singer. She truly sounds like the late Houston. Davids emerged as the one that perfectly fit the voice range of Houston. She was handpicked from a total of 15,000 aspirants who had auditioned from 12 countries. Belinda Davids was selected to pay homage to Houston with her carefully crafted renditions.

Don’t miss this critically acclaimed once in a lifetime live show of a tribute to a woman who has long been an icon of pop music and vocal ability, The Greatest Love Of All – The Whitney Houston Show Tour 2016 on Friday, August 26th, 8PM at the IEC Pavillon, Cebu City and on Saturday, August 27th at the PICC Plenary Hall, Pasay City, Manila.

A night of Jamming with Let Gravity Band

Let Gravity band members: Alden Acosta, Ram Chaves, Rigil Borromeo and Donne Santos

Not a lot of people know I’m a huge music fan. So when I was asked if I’d like to attend the launch of an OPM all-male band called Let Gravity, I immediately agreed. Let Gravity is composed of five men whose lives were connected with one another in one way or another. Most of them were members of different bands but perhaps they were really destined to form their own band because things just fell into their right places. Hence, that’s how Let Gravity came into existence.

Let Gravity band is composed of Sam Santos, Donne Santos, Rigil Borromeo, Alden Acosta and Ram Chaves. Guitarist Sam Santos is a professional songwriter who composed the teleserye theme song “Alipin,” as well as a host of other telenovela themesongs. Meanwhile, his brother Donne Santos was the founding member of the indie-band called ‘Goodbye Tracy’ and is a former member of a band called Sutil. Acoustic and electric fingerstyle guitarist Rigil Borromeo is a music teacher by profession, Alden Acosta was a former member of a band called “Happydaysahead” and the more popular group “CallaLily.” Lead vocalist Ram Chaves, who was the last one to join the group also used to have his own band named after him and was formerly a runner up in the GMA 7 Pinoy Idol Season 1 competition.

Live Life Vegan Restaurant: Home to old time favourite dishes with a vegan twist

Veggie Paella

Like an oasis quietly tucked away in the middle of Chino Roces (formerly Pasong Tamo Road) in Makati, Live Life Vegetarian Restaurant is a source of reprieve for motorists and passengers alike.  It provides healthy and alternative vegan foods, freshly produced drinks, juices and shakes to the poor souls that needed detox. It’s really just a small resto, but the kind that will make you feel good about yourself sans the guilt of pigging out.

Veggie Curry
Here at Live Life, customers are treated to a wide array of food produce and even a stash of quinoa or brown rice. This neighbourhood small vegan resto definitely does its job in bringing healthier foods back closer to home. With a classy yet minimalist ambiance, the simplest of services are delivered in the best of ways. You’d be surprised with how owner Ms. Sylvia Cancio offers special healthy buffet for lunch and dinner every Saturday for only Php295.00 per person. She has proven that healthy meals need not be bland because her vegan restaurant offers a variety of well loved dishes and they really tastes just as good as their meat counterparts.

Chili Con Tofu
Regular menu includes veggie curry (with Shiitake mushrooms as meat alternative), chilli con tofu, Japanese eggplant (that tastes like teriyaki), fresh lumpia (we all loved her fresh lumpia. It is even better than Goldilocks, I swear!) and turon with langka.

Even if you’re not a vegan, it will convince you to try to be one even just for a day. That’s how deliciously good Cancio’s dishes are at Live Life Vegan Restaurant. Don’t forget to try their Halo-halo because it has superfoods like chia seeds and cashew milk on top of the regular ingredients, as well as other a la carte recipes such as quinoa with mushroom or pineapple, and another specialty, their vegetable paella.
Vegan Spaghetti Pomodoro
The best thing about Cancio’s Live Life Vegan resto, she made sure that everything she offers are very affordable and yummy so you’ll end up wanting more and coming back again and again. I won’t be surprised to find myself back to her resto in the near future should I find myself in that Makati area again.

Live Life is located at Cancio Building, 2240 Chino Roces Avenue (in front of La Fuerza Plaza), Makati City. Call them at (02) 478 6310 / 0917 811 7435.

Lucida DS Glutathione Oral Capsules and Glutathione Bar Soap: The Secret against skin aging + achieving fair skin

Look around the shelves of the beauty sections in department stores, chances are, everywhere you look, you’ll see rows of products meant for skin whitening. In this country where morena (deep brown) skin are abound, you can ask any typical Filipina and given the chance, she’d want to have fair skin. Judging by the numerous products and the existence of kojic soap and gluatathione, acquiring that dream to get whiter skin is no longer as far-fetched as it used to be.

At my age, I have long accepted the fact that I will never become mestiza. I am more concerned with my immune response system, prevention of aging, as well as my skin’s fight against free radicals. It is only recently that I have understood what exactly does glutathione does for our overall health. Glutathione became a household word in the Philippines mainly because of its whitening side effects. But did you also know that glutathione also plays an important role to the function and multiplication of disease-fighting cells? It’s been said that glutathione is naturally produced by our body. But as we age, its level also decreases. Hence, we become more prone to sickness and diseases.

One glutathione that’s being sold in the market is Lucida DS. It’s different from the other brands because it has Rosehips too. Rosehips relieves the symptoms of kidney disorder and has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. It also helps reduces risk of cardiovascular diseases while keeping our skin healthy and supple, thus it somehow prevents aging.

Lucida DS Glutathione Soap

Most of us tend to abuse our bodies as we work hard to make ends meet. With staying up late, stress-eating, pressure from work, and all the other negative stuff we have to face each and every single day, we’re all prone t get sick and look older than our real age. With the help of Lucida DS, we can restore our health back and prevent illnesses with the increased level of glutathione in our body.

Lucida’s normal dose is 800 milligrams a capsule, 500 milligrams is solid glutathione while the rest is composed of Vitamin C (100mg), Alpha Lipoic Acid (100mg), and Rose Seeds (100mg).  It passes the strict Food and Drug Administration regulated standards so you can be assured it is safe to take as a food supplement.

With the correct milligram strength of reduced glutathione combined with Vitamin C, rosehips and alpha lipoic acid, you’re guaranteed not only to get those fair skin you’ve been wanting to achieve but also get healthier inside and out.

Lucida DS Glutathione oral capsules as well as its Lucida DS Glutathione Soap are available at all leading drugstores nationwide.

My experience as a Bayang Matuwid Volunteer (for Mar Roxas' presidential candidacy)

In life, we lose some, we win some. We can’t all be winners. One must fall, cry and suffer, be a little wounded, in order to rise. If you ask me, it was such a wonderful journey. I had a lot of fun working with everyone as a volunteer for Bayang Matuwid. Campaigning for Mar Roxas was such a fruitful experience. I got the chance to meet new friends and interact with people from all walks of life sharing one goal. It was a good campaign. I still believe, we fought a good fight. Whoever wins this election, we can only hope and pray that we will be in good hands. It was such a pleasure working with all these great people.

We’ve had our share of sleepless nights, I’ve even had my right eye bled again right (I have diabetic retinopathy which might require me to undergo laser treatment for what seemed like the nth time.) after the stressful final presidential debate as we fought hard trying to correct and cascade all the correct information to prove that the memes seen everywhere on social media weren’t exactly accurate in the first place. People were simply too gullible. At first, I couldn’t believe it. But later on, I finally get it. Perhaps, Filipinos really want a HUGE change in their way of living and in the Philippine government system as well.

The thing is, we have to accept our fate. Perhaps the presidency isn't really something for Roxas. Or maybe this isn't his time. I don't know. But I still believe in the guy's capabilities and abilities. If it's love we're talking about, it's similar to "the one that got away" kind of guy. He would've been the 'perfect' guy, but then, like they said, some things aren't meant to be. We need to accept the fact that some things are far beyond our control.

We move ahead...reconcile, but the practice to teach our children to emulate what is RIGHT will continue. The only consolation for Bayang Matuwid and other RoRo (Roxas-Robredo) supporters was Leni Robredo who might just win as our Vice President (as of this time). She is seeding that hope, a true leader from Bicol, who I am sure will uphold rule of law, human rights with pure respect to humanity's progress.

One Facebook account says that this is a battle of a human rights lawyer versus the unapologetic remorseless son of an ousted dictator. This is our battle. God save the Philippines.I chose a decent candidate with integrity. Sadly the majority would want to have something new to happen.....risky endeavor! I do pray and hope that the Filipino people will not regret their votes. I will respect and support the next Philippine president.

Thank you for the memories, Bayang Matuwid. Thank you, Mar Roxas! Good luck Leni Robredo!
